Hydrabad-Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is contesting the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election. In the recently held elections, Rahul Gandhi won two seats in Wayanad and Rae Bareli. After leaving Wayanad's seat, a by-election was necessitated in this seat. The Congress high command has decided to field Rahul's sister Priyanka Gandhi from this seat.
Priyanka's name was recently officially announced as the Congress candidate from Wayanad. Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi will campaign for her daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in this regard.
With Priyanka Gandhi contesting a direct election for the first time, the Congress leadership has taken up the Wayanad bypoll as a prestige issue. Wayanad goes to polls on November 13. The results will be declared on November 23.
